Welcome to St Joseph’s Catholic Church
In November 1916, just four months after his arrival in Australia, Father Considine purchased the present site (on which stood an open-air movie theatre) for £1500. The first building erected was a Church-School in 1917. This year we are thus celebrating 100 years as Parish. A special Centenary Mass will be celebrated at 10.30am on 23 October and Bishop Geoffrey Robinson will be the principal celebrant. Special guests have been invited and Morning Tea will be provided afterwards. A special dinner is also planned for 21 October. A ticket order form for this dinner can be found on this site at “About Us – Celebrating 100 years”.
In 1930 Fr Considine commissioned architect C Glancy to prepare plans for our wonderful Church, a replica of the famous Church of St Madeleine in Paris, with which Fr Considine had fallen in love on a visit to Paris.
Our current community is diverse and vibrant, with a number of cultures represented. Our community is committed to working together to live the Gospel faithfully. Taking the Holy Family as our model St Joseph’s Parish, Enfield is striving to build a loving, supporting & respectful faith community.
Visitors are very welcome here.
